Ateshooni in Zoroastrian - which is the indigenous spoken language of the local people - means: night time celebrations around a camp fire. Ateshooni presently is the name given to a 400 year old house located next to the remains of a Sassanian period citadel in the Oasis of Garmeh. (The Sassanians ruled the Persian Empire from around the time of Christ till 7th century A.D) It has been restored by Maziar and his family using raw bricks in an original style. Maziar and his family are originally from this village and live there. They have hosted many visitors from around the world in this unique setting. Their friendly and welcoming style has charmed many visitors since 1999 and they do their utmost to make the visits of their guests memorable by serving homemade delicious traditional Iranian food and entertain them with music performances using traditional Persian and other exotic instruments like the aboriginal didgeridoo.
